Please check each of the following items.
1. Restart your PC.
2. Check your button assignments.
If your product supports custom button mapping, please check the in-game controller settings to confirm the layout is configured as desired.
3. Run Steam as an administrator.
Insufficient permissions may prevent the controller from being recognised correctly.
Right-click the Steam shortcut and select "Run as administrator" to launch it.
If this resolves the issue, you can make it permanent by right-clicking the shortcut, opening "Properties," and checking "Run this program as an administrator" under the "Compatibility" tab.
4. Disable Steam Input.
(1) Right-click the game in your Steam Library and open "Properties."
(2) Under "Controller," select "Disable Steam Input."
*By default, "Use default settings" is selected.
5. If your controller is connected wirelessly, try switching to a wired connection to see if this resolves the issue.
6. Check and update your controller driver using the steps below.
(1) Right-click the Windows (Start) button and open "Device Manager."
(2) Under "Human Interface Devices," right-click your controller device and check whether it is functioning normally via "Properties."
(3) Regardless of the result, uninstall and then reinstall the driver.
7. Check whether each button responds correctly using the screen below.
■ For Windows 10:
Click the Windows (Start) button → "Windows System" → "Control Panel" → "Hardware and Sound" → "Devices and Printers."
Right-click your controller (gamepad) and select "Game Controller Settings."
Open "Properties" → "Test" tab and verify that each button responds correctly.
■ For Windows 11:
Go to Windows "Settings" → "Bluetooth & devices" → "Devices" → "More devices and printer settings."
Right-click your controller (gamepad) and select "Game Controller Settings."
Open "Properties" → "Test" tab and verify that each button responds correctly.
8. Try a different USB port for your controller.
Other connected devices may be causing interference. Please remove any unnecessary USB devices.
9. Check your Steam controller settings.
(1) Launch the Steam client and go to "Steam" (top left) → "Settings" → "Controller."
(2) Confirm that your controller name appears under "Controller Name," then select it at the top of the screen.
(3) Under "Test Device Inputs" → "Start Test," verify that each button on your controller responds, then reconfigure the button layout under "Set Up Device Inputs" as needed.
(4) Under "External Gamepad Settings," confirm that input for your controller is enabled.
*If your controller is not listed, enable "Enable Steam Input for Generic Gamepads."
*For "PlayStation Controller Support," select "Enable for games without native support."
10. Toggle the Steam Overlay setting.
In the Steam client, go to "Steam" → "Settings" → "In-Game" tab, then check or uncheck "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game" to see if this changes the behaviour.
11. Disable USB selective suspend (power saving).
Windows may put USB devices into a power-saving state, which can cause the controller to disconnect. Please try one of the following methods.
■ Via Device Manager:
(1) Open "Device Manager" and right-click the relevant device under "Human Interface Devices" or "Universal Serial Bus controllers."
(2) Open "Properties" → "Power Management" tab.
(3) Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
■ Via Power Options:
(1) Open "Power Options" in Control Panel and select "Change plan settings."
(2) Go to "Change advanced power settings" → "USB settings" → "USB selective suspend setting" and set it to "Disabled."
12. Update your controller's firmware.
Please check the official website or official tool for your controller's manufacturer to see if a firmware update is available, and try updating to the latest version.
13. Close or uninstall conflicting software.
Previously installed controller drivers or management software may be intercepting or remapping inputs and causing interference.
If you are using any of the following types of software, please close or uninstall them and then restart Steam.
- Controller utilities (third-party tools such as Razer or Logitech software)
- Virtual controller software
- Screen capture software
- Overclocking or system monitoring software
14. Verify the integrity of game files.
In your Steam Library, right-click the game title and go to "Properties" → "Installed Files" → "Verify integrity of game files."
15. Reinstall the Steam client.
Uninstall the Steam client and then reinstall it fresh.
16. Run Windows Update.
Click the "Start" button, then go to "Settings" → "Windows Update" to install any available updates.
