As of the Ver.1.03.01 update (released on February 13, 2026), backup files are now saved not only in the usual save data location but also in an additional backup folder.
If you encounter issues with your save data, you may be able to restore it by using these backup files.
How to Restore from Backup
- Go to Steam Client > Library, and right-click on "Nioh 3" and select "Properties."
- In the "General" tab, disable the option "Keep Nioh 3 save data in the Steam Cloud" by clicking the toggle button.
- Open the save data folder, then copy the file named "BACKUP.BIN."
- Rename the copied file to "SAVEDATA.BIN", then replace the existing file with it.
Save data Location:
C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Local\KoeiTecmo\NIOH3\Savedata\(Steam Account ID\SAVEDATA**
Note:
- The
**at the end of the folder name represents a two-digit number from 00 to 49. The "AppData" folder is hidden. To access it, paste the following path into the File Explorer address bar:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\KoeiTecmo\NIOH3\SavedataAlternatively, you can enable Show hidden items in the View tab of File Explorer to confirm the folder.
- If you are not sure which two-digit number (SAVEDATA**) is at the end of the save data you want to restore, please confirm the play date and time displayed for the save data in “LOAD GAME” on the title screen, and locate the “SAVEDATA.BIN” file whose update date matches that date.
If the above does not resolve the issue
If the entire "BACKUP.BIN" file is corrupted, please try the following method while Steam Cloud is disabled:
1. Open the backup storage location (the Savedata_backup folder) and copy the "BACKUP.BIN" file.
2. Rename the copied file to "SAVEDATA.BIN".
3. Replace the existing "SAVEDATA.BIN" file in the corresponding numbered folder within the save data storage location (the Savedata folder) with the renamed file.
Back Up Location:
C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Local\KoeiTecmo\NIOH3\Savedata_backup\(Steam ID)\SAVEDATA*
