If you are experiencing issues with saving or loading in the Steam version of "Rise of the Ronin", please try the following steps:
1. Log in to Windows as a user with administrator privileges.
2. Confirm Your Document Sharing Settings
If your Documents folder is set as a shared folder through services such as "OneDrive" or "DropBox," it may prevent the game from running properly. Please follow the steps below to disable or uninstall these services, and see if the issue is resolved.
1. Open the save data folder for this product, which is in your Documents folder:
\Documents\KoeiTecmo\Ronin\Savedata\(Steam Account ID) |
2. If the text "OneDrive" appears between your user name and Documents in the folder path, unlink or uninstall OneDrive.
For instructions on how to unlink or uninstall it, please refer to the official Microsoft support page: "Turn off, disable, or uninstall OneDrive."
* If there is no text between your username and Documents, go on to the next step.
3. After unlinking or uninstalling OneDrive, reopen the save data folder and confirm that the folder path no longer contains the text "OneDrive".
* If the text "OneDrive" still appears in the folder path, or if you are unsure how to unlink or uninstall OneDrive, please contact Microsoft support for assistance.
3. Confirm that read/write permissions are properly set for files and folders
Open the Properties of your save data file or the folder where your save data is stored, and confirm that access permissions are correctly configured on the "Security" tab.
[Save Data Storage Location]
|
4. Confirm Windows Defender's Protection History
If the game was blocked or if your Documents folder was protected, disable these protections.
You can view the protection history here:
"Windows Settings" > "Update & Security (Privacy & Security)" > "Windows Security" > “Virus & threat protection" > "Protection history"
5. Exclude this game from your security software's monitoring
In the security software installed on your PC, set the executable file "Ronin.exe" as Exceptions (Exclusions).
By default, the executable file is installed in the following location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ronin |
6. Use a Windows user account that does not contain double-byte characters.
If your Windows username contains double-byte characters, the game may not function properly. Please create a user account with only single-byte alphanumeric characters, and log in to Windows with that account.
7. Restore data from a backup
If there is any issue with your save data, restoring the data from a backup file may help.
Refer to step 3 [Save Data Storage Location] to find the folder containing the save data file you wish to restore. Then, rename the file "BACKUP.BIN" to "SAVEDATA.BIN" and replace the existing file.
